Rescue Me ID: 14-11-09-00020Maiko (female)

Shiba Inu    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: High Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

***TO ADOPT GO TO WWW.SAVEMESCOUT.WIX.COM/SAVEMESCOUTRESCUE FOR THE PUPPY ADOPTION APPLICATION!*** Maiko (my-kO), which means 'dancing child' in Japanese, is a 4 month old pure bred Red/Sesame female Shiba Inu. Maiko was came from an unlicensed breeder that was shutting down and was planning on selling her as a breeding dog. Maiko likely would have then lived her life in a cage at a puppy mill with the sole purpose of producing puppies for pet stores and internet sales. Before coming to rescue Maiko had never walked on a leash before, never met children, or other dogs besides Shiba Inus. She didn't know what a dog bed was or what toys ... (Read More)were for. Maiko is working on crate training, potty training and walking on a leash. She is quiet in her crate so she may be great for apartment living. She is crated when no one is home and at bedtime. She is fed in her crate to associate it with positive things. She can climb baby gates so no chain link fencing for risk of escape, 6 foot privacy only if she's adopted into a home with a yard. She is learning to socialize with men, women, dogs and cats. She is doing fairly well but men frighten her more than women. Once she comes out of her shell she is very active and likes to go go go! Maiko is generally shy at first in general and not getting much socialization as a very young puppy, new things that we take for granted scare her. Running the vaccuum cleaner across the room in her foster home literally made her poop and pee herself, twice. She is a sensitive soul and needs someone that can work with her. Ideally she would have a home with another dog that is well socialized so that they can show her the ropes. She does best when around other dogs however she is food aggressive towards other dogs. This can certainly be worked on with her young age and without using forceful and aggressive methods. Maiko's adoption fee is $525.00 which includes her spay, microchip, deworming, distemper/parvo combo vaccines and a private in-home training session. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-10-09-00254Sophia (female)

Shiba Inu Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Sophia is a 2 year old Red female Shiba Inu/Boxer mix who was found at a person's home just outside the reservation area in New Mexico. She showed up one day, heavily pregnant and a few days later, gave birth to 3 puppies. She was able to get onto a transport to Colorado and to our rescue because had she stayed in New Mexico she would have gone to the area shelter and risked being euthanized due to their large numbers of dogs in the area. Sophia is nervous at first but sweet once she knows you. She will follow you and push at you with her nose, both if she's unsure and then later for attention or treats. She is around children in her ... (Read More)foster home and is fine with them but does occassionally push them with her nose which may bother younger children. She would benefit from another dog in the home to show her the ropes. She does love to play with large male dogs and greets them with happy 'Shiba ears' and licks their face. She prefers to be left alone while she eats or has a bone so it's best to feed her in her crate. Sophia is hit or miss with cats, some she's fine with and others she wants to chase. Sophia is crate training and potty trained. She is fine with short chain link fencing and walks well on a leash with a harness. Her adoption fee of $225 includes her spay, microchip, deworming, distemper, bordatella, rabies vaccines, and a private in home training session. (Less)
